4th of July Weekend!!

4th of July weekend was fantastic, largely because Kev had a long weekend. We ended up go camping from Thursday evening to Sunday by a place called Leadville. Colorado is gorgeous and I love finding new beautiful places here...it is going to be hard to leave next year but I think being done with school and having an income will make the transition a little easier. So here was our weekend of camping in a nutshell:

Little Biking
Little Fishing
Little Hiking
Way too much eating including:

  • roasted hot dogs, smores, starbursts, bagels, bread
  • homemade ice cream
  • peach cobbler
  • dutch oven chicken and potatoes
  • mountain man breakfast (eggs, cheese, hash browns, bacon, sausage in the dutch oven)
  • lots of other junk food

That summarizes our fun weekend.

My Baby's Daddy

Father's day is long gone, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to post adorable pictures of my two favorite people. Ry adores Kev. The highlight of her day is when she hears him walking up the steps to our apartment after school, and I love that she would rather go hang out at cub scouts with dad, then play at home with mom. I needed a partner that would take on more responsibilities than most dads do and thank goodness Kev does. I may not be the natural motherly type...but at least I married someone who is...no offense Kev, it's a good thing.

5 Years and Counting

Yesterday was mine and Kevin's 5th anniversary! I looked through our archive of pictures starting in 2004, and I can't believe all the amazing stuff we have done together in the past 5 years. I really wouldn't change anything, I love that we have been students for the last 5 years, that we have lived in three different states, that for the first 3 years it was just Kev and I in our little family, and that now we are also a mom and a dad. I married a kind, honest, patient, and loving guy and am really grateful he is permanently part of my life. Love you! Thanks for the flowers!

Weekend Getaway

Kev had an orthodontic conference this weekend in Vail, so Ry and I tagged along and made it our first exclusive family vacation. It is so beautiful! Ry's recap of our trip includes going over bridges, fly fishing with daddy, going on walks, playing at the parks, and looking at flowers. Ry also learned to go potty outside and apparently she likes it better than using the bathroom.

Ry has a "fly rod" I made out of a stick and a little rope, she is actually pretty good and would make Grandpa Mc. proud. We drove through the most beautiful mountains and past some abandoned mining towns to go fishing.

Like Mother Like Daughter

Ry and I have plenty in common, she loves treats, she is super stubborn, she likes going on walks and bikes rides and reading, she has to go to the bathroom every half an hour...just to name a few. Recently I've noticed another habbit that I'm thinking she got from me, being constantly tired and the ability to fall asleep anywhere. She is frequently saying "mommy, I so sleepy", and yesterday during lunch this is what I found.

Potty Training Venting

Once again I have realized I am the most impatient person in the world...this time through potty training. I frequently come to the conclusion that I am not one of those motherly types, like so many women I know, who are natural nurturers, constantly patient, and forever upbeat. I totally admire women like this. I first realized I would not be the motherly type when I, unlike every other beehive or miamaid in my ward, did not want to hold any of the leaders' babies or babysit. I am proof though that if you are not a natural when it comes to kids, you can still love being a mother.... even when your kid tells you there is pee on the couch.

BTW - potty training is not completely disastrous. So far the count is 5 successful potty trips and 3 dirty panties, so I guess we're still winning right?
How could I not love this?

Warm Night on the Beach

Monday night we rode our bikes to a nearby campground and reservoir. Ry loved walking around in the chilly water, and I loved being with my family on a warm evening.
